6. Michele Bachmann and English Jesus

In 2014 the liberal satire Facebook group "Christians for Michele Bachmann" posted a photo meme attributing a quote to the former Republican congresswoman.

The context of the alleged quote was backlash from a Coca Cola Super Bowl ad that had the patriotic song "America the Beautiful" sung in multiple languages.

Politifact noted that not only was the 2014 photo meme quote fake, but that the fabricated statement had been used by other activists as far back as the nineteenth century.

"It's fake — and not even new. A hoax-debunking blog called Waffles at Noon collected 2013 versions of the Bachmann meme," explained the site.

"But it didn't start with Bachmann. We found that the 'Bible written in English' line is so old it was used to make fun of Texas' 1925-27 governor, Miriam Ferguson, to whom versions have also been attributed. And it's even older than that, tracing back to at least 1881."
