2 Dead, 19 Injured in New Orleans and D.C. Halloween Shootings

Just after midnight last night in New Orleans, Halloween turned deadly with two people killed and 13 others injured in a series of shootings, including one on the popular Bourbon Street.

The first shootout occurred near the well-known Chris Owens nightclub on Bourbon Street, when two men opened fire on each other, wounding seven and eventually killing one 25-year-old victim.

A representative of the local police department, Gary Flot, said there were no other fatal injuries as a result, according to The Associated Press.

No one was arrested pertaining to the incident, and the reason behind it is still unknown.

Later that night, on Canal Street, gunfire erupted again after an argument, this time killing a teenager and injuring three others. Officers walking their beat heard the shots ring out and proceeded to chase the suspects.

Baltiman Malcolm, 24, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder, said Flot.

A third and fourth shooting occurred around 4 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., respectively. Motives continue to be a mystery to police. In this case, three people were hurt, none with fatal implications.

An outbreak of violence in New Orleans so far has left police with only one suspect. Police believe that the shootings are unrelated, Flot said.

In Washington, six were wounded when shootings also occurred yesterday evening, the most dangerous of them in the Georgetown area.

Shots were fired on crowded M Street at 11 p.m.; although, the shots appeared to be coming from a car, witnesses told AP.

One youth was critically injured, and subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Two hours prior, in North Washington, two teenagers were shot and wounded at Georgia Avenue and Decatur Street NW.

Less than a mile away on Ninth and Crittenden streets NW, three more nonfatal casualties were caused by a shooting at 10 p.m.

Two other shootings were reported throughout the course of the night, with a teen grazed by a bullet at a train station, and a man shot on Seventh Street SE.
