3 things to know about the terror plot targeting White House UFC event

1. 5 conspirators accused of planning to attack UFC Freedom 250 event

Over the weekend, the FBI arrested five alleged conspirators in connection with the plot located in Ohio, Missouri, Nebraska and California. The investigation remains ongoing.

The five suspects are Tycen C. Proper, 19, of Danville, Ohio; Bryan Omar Roa, 24, of Calimesa, California; Michael Alan Thomas, 32, of Pinon Hills, California; Daniel K. Eskridge, 32, of Kidder, Missouri; and Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez, 31, of Omaha.

The alleged plot consisted of deploying drones armed with explosives at the UFC Freedom 250 event to force an evacuation. From there, the suspects would use snipers to fire upon “high value targets,” including U.S. government officials, as people attempted to flee the event.

According to the charges filed in Nebraska, Alvarez went by the name “Shepherd” in an encrypted chat app used to plan the attack. Based on excerpts of conversations from June, the FBI determined that Alvarez organized the terror plot.

“From his home here in Nebraska, Alvarez allegedly directed and recruited others across the country to conduct a horrific attack against government officials in a mass casualty event. Our team worked around the clock to locate and apprehend Alvarez, take him into custody, and collect crucial evidence,” Special Agent in Charge Eugene Kowel of FBI Omaha Field Office explained.

“The local partnerships forged in our FBI Omaha Joint Terrorism Task Force were critical in mitigating the threat posed by [Alvarez] and others. We are incredibly thankful for the support of the Nebraska State Patrol, Omaha Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Council Bluffs Police Department, and Saline County Sheriff’s Office in our continued efforts to identify and thwart violent attacks against the U.S.,” Kowel continued.
