3 things to know about the terror plot targeting White House UFC event

3.'Vanguard of the Old Republic' held 'ultra-religious sentiments'

According to the complaint, communications with a group calling itself the "Vanguard of the Old Republic" go back to March. The group of nearly 20 people who claimed to be "ex-military, Christian-based” communicated on TikTok, with some members later moving over to Signal.

Members of the group reportedly expressed "anti-government, ultra-religious sentiments,” and they complained about "government corruption" and the "handling of the Epstein files and data centers.”

Proper’s mother said the group was using religion to manipulate her son.

Speaking with “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday, Vice President JD Vance said of the plot to attack the UFC event at the White House: “This is very, very dark stuff.”

Vance blamed the attack on rhetoric “so loud that disagreeing with somebody is a cause for violence.”

“Everybody has a role to cut this stuff out, but I think a lot of my Democratic colleagues in Washington have got to look themselves in the mirror and say, ‘Why is so much of this political violence coming from our side of the spectrum?’ Maybe they can do something different,” Vance stated.

Two months ago, a shooter interrupted the White House Correspondents Association dinner, spurring the Secret Service to escort President Donald Trump, the vice president and members of the Cabinet to safety, followed by several members of the press.

During a July 2024 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a gunman attempted to assassinate the president from a rooftop a couple hundred yards from the event. A few months after the attempted assassination in Butler, another shooter tried to murder Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
