4 major ballot measure results from the 2026 midterm elections: Voter ID, abortion and protecting girls' sports
3. Redistricting amendment passes in Maryland, fails in Missouri
As mid-decade redistricting dominated the headlines heading into the midterms, voters in two states were asked to weigh in on new congressional maps drawn by their state legislatures to favor the majority party. In Missouri, 81.8% of voters have rejected a new congressional map designed to favor Republicans in seven of the state’s eight congressional districts.
The rejection of Proposition A means Missouri's current congressional map, which gave Republicans five congressional districts and Democrats three, will remain in place. Meanwhile, about 60% of Maryland voters supported Question 3.
The Maryland ballot measure is designed to pave the way for Democrats to create a new congressional map that would enable them to win all eight of the state’s congressional districts, rather than seven on the current map. It seeks to clarify that the requirements imposed on state legislative districts do not apply to federal congressional districts.
