The sudden death of U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has left his Senate open for remainder of the term, prompting speculation about who South Carolina’s governor will choose as the late Republican politician’s replacement.
Under South Carolina law, Gov. Henry McMaster, a Republican, has the authority to appoint an interim senator until a successor taks office next year after the election in November. McMaster is expected to announce the interim appointment during a Monday press conference honoring the life and legacy of the late senator.
