U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton are headed for a runoff after neither candidate was able to secure a majority of the vote in the state’s Republican primary.
With 99% of the vote tallied as of Thursday morning, Cornyn received 41.9%, while Paxton stands at 40.7%, according to Associated Press data.
President Donald Trump could end up ultimately deciding the race — at least on the GOP side — after stating on social media Wednesday he would “soon” announce his endorsement and expects the other candidate to promptly drop from the race, calling his endorsements "insurmountable."
