4. Race for next Texas AG headed for runoff
While Ken Paxton, the current Texas attorney general, is facing a runoff vote in his own race for the U.S. Senate, both candidates vying to replace him are set for the same thing.
State Sen. Mayes Middleton and Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Roy each failed to garner 50% of the vote, despite a 10-point lead by Middleton over Roy, according to Associated Press data.
Trump has apparently endorsed Middleton as a “MAGA champion” while Roy has split with the president on a number of issues, including the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. Roy also backed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
