Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has mostly stayed out of the political spotlight prior to taking over as interim senator following her brother’s death over the weekend.

During a Monday press conference, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster announced that he had selected Nordone as a temporary replacement to serve the remainder of her brother’s term. Lindsey Graham, 71, never had a wife and was never married. He was up for reelection before he passed away from a “brief and sudden illness.”

During the conference, Nordone, 62, thanked the many people who had offered their condolences within the last few days, saying that “Lindsey was loved and respected by many.”

“Lindsey has always been there for me, and now I will be there for him,” she continued. “My brother was the most amazing person, outstanding leader, and just a genuinely good man.”

“He was kind and considerate and loved by his family dearly. As I think everyone would agree, Lindsey worked harder than anyone. He worked nonstop to make our state, country, and world better.”

Here are four things to know about Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.
