The theme for this year's International Women's Day is "Accelerate Action," as in moving faster toward gender equality, according to an announcement released by organizers.

"At the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158, which is roughly five generations from now, to reach full gender parity, according to data from the World Economic Forum," stated the organizers.

"Focusing on the need to Accelerate Action emphasizes the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres."

This year, the observance is emphasizing a "Support the Supporters" strategy, calling on IWD events worldwide "to incorporate an element of women-focused fundraising."

"From grassroots groups to large-scale bodies, philanthropic entities are working tirelessly to support and advance women and girls.," the IWD organizers added.

"And remember, it's not solely large global charities calling for financial donations on IWD. There are thousands of grassroots charities working tenaciously for women's advancement where funds can be directed as well."
