5 highlights from Tuesday's primary races

Voters in several states went to the polls Tuesday to vote in primary elections that will directly affect which candidates appear on the ballot this fall in the upcoming midterm elections.

Some of the elections were decided Tuesday night, while others are heading to a runoff.

The biggest developments of the evening were the defeat of a prominent Republican critic of President Donald Trump and strong performances by Supreme Court justices in a pivotal swing state.

Here are five highlights from Tuesday’s primaries.
