While Father’s Day has long been a major commercial event in the United States, with many gifts being given to dads, this year is expected to have record-breaking spending.

According to a survey by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics, Americans will spend an estimated $22.9 billion to celebrate Father’s Day this year.

The average expected spending per person in the U.S. for Father’s Day is $196.23, compared with $171.79 per person last year and $113.80 in 2014, according to the NRF.

“Father’s Day remains a momentous occasion for Americans to honor the important men in their lives,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement released on June 1.

“Consumers plan to celebrate the holiday in a big way this year, and retailers are ready to help make it special.”
