6 faith-based, family-friendly movies coming to theaters this fall
4. 'God With Us' — Nov. 13
The Nativity story moves to a contemporary, inner-city setting in “God With Us,” a faith-based drama from writer-director Jimmy Jenkins.
The film tells the story of childhood sweethearts Mary Anne Thomas and Joseph “Junie” Love in a modern reimagining of Mary and Joseph’s story, highlighting themes of faith, family, love, humor and redemption. Ashley Olivia Fisher and Aspen Kennedy lead an ensemble cast that includes Lil Rel Howery, Rotimi, Roger Guenveur Smith, Gregory Alan Williams, Ashley Rios and Clifton Powell.
Jenkins previously brought a contemporary cultural lens to themes of Christianity, love and redemption with his debut feature, “Sinners Wanted.” Arriving just ahead of the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, “God With Us” seeks to introduce the familiar biblical account of Jesus’ birth to audiences through characters and circumstances in modern life.
