6 things to know about Cornell University gang rape allegations, reopened investigation

1. Jane Doe’s claims in the suit against Cornell

Jane Doe’s lawsuit claims that she was “visibly intoxicated” when she arrived at the house belonging to the Xi Chapter of Chi Phi Fraternity on Oct. 19, 2024. The suit claims that she had consumed “about 10 standard drinks within the past 3 hours.”

One fraternity member reportedly offered Doe a beer and danced with her, and then invited her to engage in a threesome with another fraternity brother. The suit notes that Doe “was incapable of consenting to this proposition” due to her drunken state.

The lawsuit claims that two fraternity members pressured Doe into snorting a substance that they said was ketamine, and are also accused of plying plaintiff with “marijuana and ‘Jamaican Liquor’ believed to be some type of high-proof rum.”

The two fraternity brothers who allegedly plied Doe with drugs also allegedly sexually assaulted her, according to the suit, which says that other men assaulted her as well.

A screenshot pictured in the complaint shows a message one of the fraternity brothers sent in the “Chi Phi Actives” Snapchat group at 1:42 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2024.

The message stated that there was “free p—y” upstairs, referring to Doe. The complaint alleges that more men sexually assaulted Doe until about 5:45 a.m., and she lost consciousness after the assault concluded.
