6 things to know about Cornell University gang rape allegations, reopened investigation

2. Aftermath of Jane Doe reporting incident

On or about Nov. 8, 2024, Jane Doe’s lawsuit states that she reported the incident to the Cornell University Police Department. The Xi chapter, as well as the fraternity members accused of sexual assault, were temporarily suspended.

Doe gave a sworn statement to campus police on Nov. 14-15, 2024, according to CBS News.

Cornell commenced a Title IX investigation into Doe’s complaint on Jan. 14, 2025, and its Title IX office held at least 12 hearings related to the allegations from May 2, 2025, up through May 29, 2025, the lawsuit notes.

In a statement to CBS News New York about the case, Doe’s attorney, Thomas Giuffra, claimed that his client dropped out of school due to the alleged assault. Giuffra said that two of the accused fraternity members were expelled, while the punishments for the other five included suspensions, workshops and writing essays.

"Not one of these guys was arrested. Not one. That I can tell you for a fact," Giuffra told CBS News New York.
