3. Cornell University responds to reports on Chi Phi sexual assault allegations
Cornell University said in a statement that the school conducted a Title IX investigation for several months into Jane Doe’s allegations. The university asserted that it also issued temporary suspensions and other restrictive measures after the alleged incident was reported.
“Following the university’s Title IX investigation, sanctions including expulsions and suspensions were issued by a hearing panel comprising trained faculty and staff. Federal privacy law prohibits Cornell from disclosing specific information regarding individual students, and the university is therefore unable to make a public statement regarding any other disciplinary response,” the university stated.
In its statement, the university also denied the claim that some of the students involved in the incident only had to write essays as punishment.
Cornell also said it "supports the decision" of the district attorney to let Doe's story be heard by a grand jury, according to CNN.
