Update:Corey Stapleton dropped out of the presidential race on Oct. 13 after concluding that he “wasn’t able to break through.”

Corey Stapleton, who served as Montana’s Republican Secretary of State from 2017-2021, is running for president in an attempt to “change the way we think of ourselves as Americans.” His campaign website insists that “there is untapped greatness in our country, if we will only free ourselves from the pettiness, dishonesty, and financial mismanagement of the current political class.”

Stapleton also sees his presidential run as a vehicle to advance a movement to “Pay it Forward.” According to Stapleton’s website, “Pay it Forward is the idea that each of us belongs to an American society, and those who lived before us sacrificed and ‘paid’ for many of the things we now enjoy. In the same way, we want to invest in the futures of our children and grandchildren.”

In an announcement video posted on his website, Stapleton lamented the state of American politics, where politicians consistently assert that “the sky is falling” and ask people to “send them money so they can keep fighting the latest culture war.” Contending that “we’re better than that,” Stapleton remarked that “fear-based politics is good for controlling people but not good for improving America.” He concluded the ad by stressing the need for “a new approach of leading the greatest nation in the world.”
