Baby Left With Pit Bull as Father Goes Out Drinking, Child Neglect Charges Filed

A baby has been left home alone with a pit bull, causing police to arrest the father, who was adamant that he had not left the baby alone while he allegedly went drinking.

The 10 month old baby was left in the care of the infant's father, when the mother left for work in Florida on Nov. 30, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

However, the 41 year old father from northeast Florida, James Irvine, allegedly left the baby alone in the house while he went out for Friday night drinks.

He has denied leaving the baby alone, according to police, saying that the pit bull was watching the child. He will now face child neglect charges.

According to reports the child's mother became concerned that something was wrong when she tried to contact the father numerous times on Friday night.

She eventually managed to get through to him but he simply responded, "I'm watching the game," according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal. He then hung up.

The mother later arrived back home and found Irvine trying to get back into the house through the garage door. 911 was then called and police quickly attended the scene.

A Flagler County sheriff's report has claimed that Irvine told the mother that he had not "left the baby alone," because the "pit bull was watching the baby," according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

The publication also reports that the pit bull was sitting calmly in the room where the baby was left. The door was closed and the child was allegedly crying when found.

Police arrested the father after the shocking incident, and took him to the Flagler County Inmate Facility, according to CBS News. He has since been released on $1,500 bail.
