'Baywatch' Movie Plot, News, Cast: Nina Dobrev and Other TV Stars Included in Short List for Female Lead

The current trend of movie reboots for TV shows and movies in the past just may have been triggered by the success "21 Jump Street." Followed by announcements of reboots of "Ghostbusters" and "Power Rangers," it didn't take long for "Baywatch" to jump on the bandwagon.

After the announcement to take on this endeavor, the actors announced to take the lead for the new movie are none other than Zac Efron and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Whether there is hope to recreate the chemistry that Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum had by casting Efron and Johnson, it may all depend on the story line. However, for fans of the lifeguard show, they are all quite aware that the success of the show also relied heavily on the beautiful women that the show featured, and so whoever gets tapped for the lead female is a crucial decision that the film's reception may lie on.

Now, Deadline just released the short list for potential lead females. It seems that the list includes a number of TV actresses, including Alexandra Daddario, Ashley Benson, Nina Dobrev, Alexandra Shipp, Shelley Hennig, Bianca Santos, and Denyse Tontz. Perhaps the most recognizable name on the list is none other than Dobrev, who was the main female protagonist for six seasons in the popular The CW show "The Vampire Diaries." Another lead series actress is Benson, who is one of the main five leads in "Pretty Little Liars." It won't be much of a problem for the blonde actress to also shoot a lot in a bikini as she has alredy done so in the 2012 movie "Springbreakers." Meanwhile, Hennig has a supporting recurring role in MTV's "Teen Wolf," while Tontz appears in "Big Time Rush" on Nickelodeon.

As for Daddario, if she is to get the role, it wouldn't be too hard to work with one of the lead actors, as she just recently appeared with Johnson in the movie "San Andreas Quake." As for Shipp, her recent big role as Storm in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" may help her bag this role as her exposure can definitely help in draw moviegoers for "Baywatch."

For now, there isn't a set date for the movie yet as fans await for further news.
