Beyonce's Support of Gay Marriage Sparks Backlash From Christian Fans

Beyonce Knowles recently sparked a reaction from the Christian community on her Instagram account when she took a stance in support of gay marriage.

The 31-year-old singer, who is married to rapper Jay-Z, took to her Instagram account to post another version to her 2008 chart-topping song "Single Ladies."

"If you like it, you should be able to put a ring on it," Knowles wrote on Instagram. "It's about time #equality #prop8 #marriageislove."

The singer's public stance on gay marriage is taking place during the Supreme Court debate on Prop 8, which prevents same-sex couples from marrying legally in the state of California. However, a number of Christians took to her Instagram account to disagree with her stance.

"Marriage is a GODLy union of a man and a woman, state, government or celebrities don't have a say so in it, the Gay community should be given civil unions thats granted by the government not GOD, that's an abomination against GOD," one person wrote on Knowles' Instagram. "ANYONE who thinks otherwise, doesn't love or know OUR LORD. Blessings."

Another individual decided to refer to a scripture to back up their stance which differed from that of Knowles.

"Leviticus 20:13, ' If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads, Mark 10:6-9, but at the beginning of creation GOD made them male and female," the person wrote. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh. So they ate no longer two but one. Therefore what GOD has joined together, let man not separate. If this wasn't true, none of us would be here."

Still, another person took a different approach by speaking about respecting the opinion of Knowles while using the Bible to support their stance opposing same-sex marriage.

"I respect your beliefs and your right to be gay so why would you disrespect my religion and say the bible is a load of (expletive)? If you think that way then why do you stand behind marriage at all," the person questioned. "Marriage does stem from the bible so what are u saying? The bible is the foundation of our society... 'in God We Trust' is on our currency, almost every one of the Ten Commandments if broken are punishable by law...God is even in the pledge of allegiance that kids say every morning."
