4 highlights from the Biden tapes: Classified information disclosed, name mix-ups
4. Biden unable to remember names of Obama’s economic advisers
Part of the tapes document a discussion about disagreements then-Vice President Biden had with Obama, specifically regarding economics.
Biden praised Obama's Chief of Staff Ron Klain for being “on my side when he was there,” along with two members of the Council of Economic Advisers that he couldn't recall the names of. He identified one person he was seeking to as “the guy at Princeton now,” an “economist” and a “good guy,” while clarifying that he knew his name was “not Kaufman.”
Biden also spoke favorably of “the guy back at the University of Chicago with the funny name.” While the former vice president expressed confidence that he would “think of it in a second,” Zwonitzer named Austan Goolsbee as the economist at the University of Chicago that Biden was thinking of.
“And the other guy is at Princeton,” Biden reiterated before remarking “I should write the names down because I keep forgetting them.” Zwonitzer asked Biden if he was thinking of Alan Krueger and that jogged his memory, prompting the former vice president to tout Krueger as a “great guy” and identifying himself as a “big fan.”
