Brandi Chastain, Hope Solo Feud: Brandi Chastain Responds

Brandi Chastain has remained relatively silent in the war of words launched by United States soccer goalie Hope Solo, but now she has finally spoken out and responded to Solo's scathing Twitter rant.

"My only comment is I am in London to cover women's soccer for NBC in an honest and objective fashion, and that is what I have done and will continue to do for the rest of the tournament," Chastain told Us Weekly.

Her words came after Solo bashed Chastain for her criticism of the U.S. soccer team's performance in the Olympics.

"It's too bad we can't have commentators who better represent the team and know more about the game," Solo wrote in a personal tweet to Chastain.

"Lay off commenting about defending and goalkeeping until you get more educated. The game has changed from a decade ago," Solo added.

Chastain's original comments had nothing to do with Solo's personal performance but rather that of defender Rachel Buehler. She noted that Buehler "needs to improve on in this tournament" during a broadcast on NBC.

Solo unleashed her rage with a harsh critique of Chastain, who played for the U.S. National Team and, in 1999, scored the winning shot against China. She became famous for her reaction to the win, which included ripping off her shirt and exposing her sports bra.

Since then, she has worked as a sports commentator, specializing in women's soccer. Chastain has been a commentator for NBC and ABC/ESPN. It is unlikely that she will stop commentating after this latest incident with Solo.

Solo will not likely face disciplinary measures for her response to Chastain, but it is not the first time her mouth has gotten her in trouble. In 2007, she was removed from the U.S. team by coach Greg Ryan after publicly criticizing his decision to play another teammate.
