Britney Spears has been named the top female earner within the music industry over Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
Dethroning country pop queen Taylor Swift, it was announced Wednesday that Britney Spears, 31, is the highest paid woman within the music industry. During 2012, the pop-star and "X-Factor" judge has managed to earn over $58 million.
The numbers, provided by Forbes magazine, includes commissions off of Spears "albums, endorsements, and perfume," according to the report. Swift still came in a close second, however, earning $57 million during 2012. Lady Gaga, who earned the most in 2011, slipped into fourth place and R&B singer Rihanna edged up to third after coming in fifth last year.
"I think people love the comeback story- Britney never really finished her run as a superstar," Steve Stoute, marketing expert and author of "The Tanning of America" told Forbes.
At the end of November, Spears debuted her latest music video, "Scream and Shout" featuring Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas during an episode of "The X-Factor." The song hit the top of digital charts in the number one spot following its debut. The number one hit marks the seventh time one of her singles has made Billboard's Digital Songs chart.
Spears was recently linked back to her former husband Kevin Federline after it was revealed that the couple owed the California government thousands of dollars in back taxes. But according to representatives for the pop star, the tax lien is a mistake.
Spear's representatives stated in a report that the tax mix up between Spears and her former husband, Kevin Federline, should be resolved shortly.
Recent figures provided by Celebrity Net Worth showed that overall, Spears had been valued to be worth an estimated $200 million, although that number may go up now given her successful year.
