Britney Spears Wants to Be An 'X-Factor' Judge

Britney Spears is interested in joining Simon Cowell and L.A Reid as a judge on "The X Factor" show in a bid to boost her career.

"She's a huge fan of 'The X-Factor' and thinks it's the perfect time for her to be a judge. She wants to show her fans she is back to her best and where better to do that than on national TV every week?" A friend of Spears told The New York Post.

"She knows all about the ups and downs of pop fame. And with her schedule relatively clear she has the time to dedicate to a different project," the insider added.

The 30-year-old pop star, who is rumored to be up against Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey, would replace former judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul if Cowell, 52, gives her a judging role.

In a bid to revamp the U.S. version of "X-Factor," Cowell has reportedly been courting a number of renowned A-listers, including singers Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Black Eyed Peas' singer Fergie, according to Fox News.

Spears, who has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, could potentially draw in new viewers which would undoubtedly help boost failed ratings and sources say that it would also help revive her own career.

"Britney has had a tough few years but this would put her back at the very top. She would be great for the show and it could be great for her. In terms of excitement and intrigue Britney would top them all," a music industry insider told The Post.

Cowell, 52, was reportedly unimpressed after his "X-Factor" show failed to match that of its main competitor, "American Idol," and sources reveal that he is determined to introduce more high-profile, big-name judges to improve its current viewership.

"I had a big bottom lip at the end of last year. It was a tough year, but it wasn't a horrible year. I just realize you have to do things better and not feel sorry for yourself," Cowell recently told BBC.

Spears, whose career has been at a standstill over the past year, was recently rumored to be a featured artist on Madonna's latest album "MDNA."

The news leaked on the "Toxic" singer's fan page, Breatheheavy.com, though sources from both camps recently refused to confirm the rumor.
