'Castle' Season 7 News: Upcoming Season to Feature Alternate Reality Episode

Though fans — especially Caskett hopefuls — may find it hard to imagine "Castle" without seeing Rick Castle and Kate Beckett together, the show's upcoming season will reportedly have one episode that toys with this premise. What if Rick and Kate had never met?

According to TVLine, an alternate reality episode will be featured in season 7 to lighten things up after the dramatic ending of season 6. Though specifics of the episode have been kept under wraps, series regular Jon Huertas, who plays Detective Javier Esposito, tells the website that the episode is by far his favorite.

"This 'alternate universe' is classic Castle, where you mix a great procedural crime with comedy," said Huertas to TVLine.

The actor also said that it will imagine a completely different world where all of the characters exist, but in different ways.

"It was a lot of fun, getting into that script and seeing how we might all be a bit different. It's a really fun episode, and people are really going to enjoy it. It's one of those episodes where you have to laugh," he said.

Meanwhile, series creator Andrew Marlowe has confirmed that "Castle" fans can expect a wedding in season 7, since Kate and Rick's wedding was derailed in the season 6 finale of the show.

It can be recalled that Rick, who was on his way to the church for his wedding, was on the phone with Kate and telling her that he will be "there in 20 minutes." He then noticed a car tailing him. Kate is seen getting worried as it has been an hour and Rick is nowhere to be seen. She receives a call, and she hurries out in her bridal car, only to see Rick's car in flames.

But Rick is not dead, as the season 7 promo begins with Kate saying, "He's not in his car." So where could he be? Marlowe says no matter what, the Caskett wedding will take place sometime during the upcoming season.

"We know that we owe them a wedding that accurately reflects who Castle and Beckett are," said the show runner.

"Castle" season 7 will premiere on Sept. 29 on ABC.
