'Civilization 6' Fall Update Arrives; Game's Religion Mechanics Overhauled

"Civilization 6" has a set of new updates for this fall, starting with a major one that revamps the combat mechanics of religion units plus a whole bunch of AI upgrades. These came out all in time for a new DLC which adds Indonesia, the Khmer Empire and a new leader with a religion-based unique ability.

After an initial announcement that the religion gameplay of "Civilization 6" will be getting a reboot, the dev team has delivered on their promise of new Pantheons and a renewed religious combat system.

Firaxis has delivered, as listed out in their comprehensive news update on the Fall 2017 changes that just went live for "Civilization 6." As promised, religion got a big boost this time, with new beliefs, new religious units, a new Founder, and two new religion Pantheons built from the ground up for this revamp.

For their religion update, users can already get a look at the changes at first glance with the updated "Religion Lens" which cleaned up the user interface a fair bit. Religious units on the map now have a clear indication of their allegiance with their new flag indicators, as well.

Combat involving religious units got a much-needed added depth, with deployed groups on the map now able to exert Zone of Control, as well as give or receive Flank and Support bonuses in battle. It's not just a numbers game now, with positioning now playing a much bigger role this time around as well.

Religion also plays a new role in trade, with the religious pressure mechanic added to both ends of a trade route. Destination cities now get the full effects of pressure, as if the originating city was a neighbor.

To complete the theme, both the new Khmer and Indonesia civilizations have leaders whose unique abilities are tied in with faith, as well. All the details are laid out in the Civilization official site.
