CP World Report: Christians in Syria, Egypt Sinking Further Into Islam, Canada Raising the Assisted Suicide Debate

Christians in Syria are faced with a moral dilemma. On the one hand, many feel they have an obligation to oppose President Bashar al-Assad. Others, however, are concerned that if they do support the pro-democracy protests, believers could eventually find their lives threatened by Muslim extremists. Although President Assad, is seen as a dictator, his regime is still considered secular, and has been a safe haven for religious minorities in the Middle East. While individual Christians may be unsure of where to place their support, church officials have uniformly expressed support for the government, having called for an end to protests and a move toward reconciliation. Many Christian leaders are calling for the attention of Western powers who support pro-democracy movements and remain too passive about violence against Christians after the fall of a regime.

Meanwhile….Fears mounting in Egypt that the Christian community could be in even more danger as Islamists dominate parliament. The concern was raised over news that the Muslim Brotherhood's leader is to become the speaker of Egypt’s newly-minted Parliament. Even CNN reported…. It is the first time in decades that an Islamist is taking over that post. In addition: Islamists of various stripes – including the radical Salafists – are expected to win 60 percent of the 498 elected seats in the assembly's lower house, with the Brotherhood taking some 41 percent. Since the fall of Mubarek, Christians have been worse off.

Canon Andrew White, Vicar of Iraq had this to say about the ARAB SPRING…..

Imagine a world without free knowledge. Up to midnight last night, that’s the message anyone who went to Wikpedia found instead of the info they were digging up. The organization imposed a 24 hour blackout to protest proposed anti-piracy legislation. Many leading websites—including Facebook, Google and Amazon—also contend the bill will make it almost impossible for them to operate. Wikipedia’s co-founder: Jimmy Wales…..

Opponents say….the “Protect Intellectual Property Act” and “Stop Online Privacy Act” ….designed to eliminate online theft… forces American companies to censor the Internet which is not a smart way to target foreign rogue websites. But Chris Dodd, chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America supports the bill, since piracy is costing the media industry about 250-billion a year. A tragic event, surely to be noted by proponents of patient assisted suicide: 82 year old Ottawa resident Ian Flann was married for 65 years. His wife became afflicted by Alzheimer’s and his brain and body so riddled with terminal cancer that he could no longer care for her. On boxing day he stabbed her to death with a hunting knife and was charged with first degree murder. He just passed away from his cancer, a day before he was to seek bail. The misery of his death and the murder of his wife is causing much discussion about patient assisted suicide.

Something all parents everywhere need to take note of: their children on the internet!
Forty people were arrested in Central Florida following a massive undercover internet child sex sting. A teacher, a swim coach and several college students were among those taken into custody. Scott McDonnell has more on the huge bust.

A polish pop star was fined almost 1-and-a-half thousand dollars for defaming the bible. In an interview in 2009, Pop Star Doda” Rabczewska said that she has trouble believing in the bible because it was written by someone who was drunk on wine and smoked herb. She inflamed the Catholic community, making up 90 percent of the population. She also offended Jews. Two years prior to that, her Ex-Fiance was on trial for offending Religious feelings when he ripped the pages of a bible while performing in a live heavy metal performance. He was found innocent, on grounds of artistic expression.
