‘It was a massacre’: 4 things to know about deadly church attack in Jordan

Suspects 'returned to finish off’ victims

3. Jordan's King Abdullah II vows terrorists ‘will not escape punishment’

In a Monday statement following the arrests, King Abdullah II of Jordan recalled his previous vow to respond with an “iron fist” against those who threaten the nation.

“Here they are, the brave ones, pursuing them even to their burrows,” he declared. “We said that the terrorists will not escape punishment, and no one who holds a thought that distinguishes between a Jordanian and a Jordanian will escape.”

“May God have mercy on the martyrs, heal the wounded, and protect our homeland and our people from all evil and harm,” the king of Jordan added.

On Friday, King Abdullah II promised that the “terrorist attack against Karak will be met with the harshest retaliation.”

“Those who delude themselves into thinking that they can divide Jordanians with their bullets have no chance in the face of our unity,” the king wrote in a Friday X post. “All Jordanians, from north to south, are partners in land and fate, and nothing stands between them. Our deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs and we wish a speedy recovery to those injured.”

“Every Jordanian life is precious, and we will strike with an iron fist against those who dare to threaten our nation,” he continued.

Jordan declared three days of national mourning, the AP reported. Some 3,000 people attended a funeral Sunday for victims of the attack, according to CBS News.
