Fashion Island Shooting: Marcos Sarinana Gurrola Fires 50 Gunshots Before Mall Lockdown in California [VIDEO]

Some of the 50 shots fired by suspected gunman Marcos Sarinana Gurrola during the Fashion Island shooting at Newport Beach, Ca., Saturday and a short footage of the shooter himself have been captured on video by a holiday shopper. A man said he heard gunfire from the California mall shooting while he was taking packages to his car.

Police have arrested 42-year-old Marcos Sarinana Gurrola, a Garden Grove resident, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to Kathy Lowe, a spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Police Department. Gurrola is suspected of firing 50 shots in the air outside the Macy's parking lot Saturday afternoon. He is in jail today with bail set at $250,000.

More charges could be filed against Gurrola as the investigation continues. No one has been reported hurt from the shootings.

The video posted on "pwyrick's" YouTube acccount records some of the shots allegedly fired by Gurrola in the Macy's parking lot at Fashion Island Mall.

"I was taking packages out to the car when I heard a bunch of shots. I wasn't sure they were real or not. Then a heard another set of shots and then another. I couldn't see who was shooting, but I started to take video in the direction the shots came from while standing behind the car you see in the foreground," he said.

"My video catches the last two clips he shot and I could finally see him when he shot off the last clip. You can barely make the shooter out. He is just beneath the little redish (sic) triangle immediately left of the two palm trees in the center of the picture."

The Fashion Island shooting in Newport Beach sent the Southern California mall on lockdown. Shoppers ran for cover, running in the opposite direction of Macys and emptying the mall level of the department store, according to witnesses.

After the shooting, the Newport Beach Police Department has issued the following statement regarding the shooting at Fashion Island Mall:

"On December 15, 2012, Newport Beach Police responded to the area of San Miguel Drive and Newport Center Drive in response to several calls of possible shots fired. Witnesses reported seeing a male standing in the parking lot outside of Macy's in Fashion Island firing a weapon multiple times into the air. Newport Beach Police Officers working in the area arrived quickly and took the suspect into custody without incident.

"Based on witness statements at the scene, and as a result of the preliminary investigation it was determined that the suspect fired approximately 50 rounds from a handgun into the air. There were no reports of injuries related to the shots fired, however one individual sustained minor injuries while fleeing the area.

"The suspect was standing next to his vehicle at the time of the arrest and advised officers there was additional ammunition located in the trunk of his vehicle. As a precautionary measure the Orange County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad was called in to remove the ammunition from the vehicle.

During the incident and for a short time following, several stores in Fashion Island secured their doors as a precautionary measure, however most stores remained open throughout the evening.

The investigation is continuing at this time. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Detective Garrett Fitzgerald at (949) 644-3781."
