2. Chevron
After years of legislative gridlock and pushback from Sacramento over regulation, Chevron announced its relocation from San Ramon to Houston in August 2024.
While support positions would remain in San Ramon, Chevron Chairman and CEO Mike Wirth and Vice Chairman Mark Nelson moved to Houston to join other senior leaders of the company, Chevron announced in August 2024.
The company, which operates crude oil fields and other facilities to supply over 1,800 retail locations in California, already had more than 7,000 employees in the Houston area prior to the move.
Along with its relocation, Chevron touted its long history of reinvesting in the Houston community, with initiatives focused on STEM education, food and housing security, the environment and local emergency response efforts.
