Following the Trends

It's no secret that in our society, and many before, people are trend followers. For some reason, they feel better about themselves if they are dressed in the latest fashion or have the newest tech gadget. There's a general attitude that says, "If everyone else is doing it, it must be okay." It's interesting because this just shows there is a deep longing inside of all of us for connection. We automatically gravitate toward common ground with our peer groups. There's nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with being trendy, but we have to be careful not to let the trends define who we are. We have to be careful not to look for confidence in the acceptance of others because true confidence only comes from knowing God.

I love David's attitude in the Bible. He wasn't afraid to go against the trends. He wasn't going to be defined by the opinions of others. When he had to face Goliath, he didn't choose the world's way of preparing for battle; he chose God's way and won a great victory. All through his life, David drew confidence from remembering the victories God had given him.

Today, I encourage you to draw strength from knowing that God is faithful. Don't look for approval in what everyone else is doing; look for approval from Almighty God. He knows the end from the beginning, and He always has victory in mind for you. Let His Word give you confidence to embrace every blessing He has in store for your future.
