There have been a lot of Samsung Galaxy S8 rumors lately, as Samsung fans anticipate the release of its future flagship smartphone. One of the latest rumors has to do with the company getting rid of the Home button for the Galaxy S8. While most rumors aren't validated by Samsung, some, including this one, get a little bit more weight with evidence from several reliable sources.

New Fingerprint Scanner Technology

According to the latest rumor, a new fingerprint scanner technology developed by Synaptics, a Biometrics company, could be used by Samsung for its next smart phone.

This new sensor has the capacity to scan a person's fingerprint through a millimeter of "full cover glass." The Apple iPhone 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 uses a physical button which contains a scanner. With this new technology, tech companies could get rid of the physical button altogether and hide this new scanner underneath the full cover glass.

If this is realized, then the Samsung Galaxy S8 will have even smaller bezels, as the Home button will basically be embedded on the lower part of the smart phone's front.

According to Les Santiago, Research Director for IDC (an analyst firm), "By bringing optical sensing technology with the right form factor and power consumption envelope to smartphones and tablets, Synaptics is enabling the elimination of the Home button, which is a critical next step to full top-to-bottom, edge-to-edge smartphone and tablet displays."

International Business Times reports that this optical fingerprint scanner is called the FS9100. Its production will begin in April 2017 and end in June of the same year.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is rumored to be released on February 2017, a few months earlier than the production of the FS9100. One possibility is for the company to delay the release of the smart phone. Another thing to consider is that Samsung could use other similar technologies developed by other companies, or they could develop their own similar scanner.

Release Date

Forbes reported that Samsung will target a release date of March 2017 for the Samsung Galaxy S8. However, due to the previous debacle related to the exploding Galaxy Note 7's, the company may take extra steps to assure their latest smart phone is safe.

That means that Samsung may push back the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S8 one month. However, it remains to be seen whether this will indeed make the smartphone explosion-free. The company will probably advertise to the tune of "this is the safest smartphone ever, as it has been robustly tested like no other."
