Gavin DeGraw Stressed Out Over Dancing With the Stars

When one thinks of tough competition, images of Olympic contests, or Harvard admissions offices come to mind, but country music star Gavin DeGraw thinks of something else entirely. The musician is feeling the stress of his role on the ABC reality show Dancing With the Stars, US Weekly reports. DeGraw and his partner Karina Smirnoff were nearly axed in the first round of eliminations Tuesday night.

DeGraw's point total landed him on the bottom of the contestant pool. He and tennis star Martina Navratilova were the bottom two, and thus they were the two contestants in danger of being voted off. Luckily for DeGraw he won the fan vote, and Martina Navratilova was sent packing instead of him.

The country music star spoke with E! News about what it felt like to stand on stage waiting to see if he would stay or go.

"Had I known it was going to be that stressful and I was going to have that many palpitations, I would've taken an aspirin before I went out there onstage. I felt it. It was like an aspirin commercial up there. That mixed in with a little indigestion. It got scary."

It seems his years of experience performing only added stress to the situation.

He told E! that while he was waiting to hear the results, "I was watching my dance career flash before my eyes!"

His opponent Martina Navratilova was a good sport about being the first star of the season sent home. Right after being eliminated she spoke with Us Weekly: "I thought maybe I had a shot with the popular vote, but Gavin DeGraw is too popular so I didn't get it! That's how it goes."

Will Gavin DeGraw's popularity be enough to help him avoid elimination in the coming weeks, or will he have to work even harder and improve his performance to stay on the show?
