'Ghostbusters 3' Release Date, Cast News: Filming Commences in 2015, 'Bridesmaids' Director Paul Feig With All-Female Squad?
Latest rumors about the third installment of the popular American supernatural comedy film "Ghostbusters" indicate a total casting reboot. The sequel could feature an all-female crew, according to reports.
With the passing of Harold Ramis, one of the main roles in the franchise, Sony Pictures was forced to revise the script they had already written for the sequel. Meanwhile, director and producer Ivan Reitman pulled out from the directing role in light with Ramis' death but promised the studio to help look for a substitute.
Amidst the ruckus, big news finally arrived when, at least as rumored, Sony was seen meeting with "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig.
According to celebrity gossip website Perezhilton.com, inside sources has confirmed Feig's involvement in the upcoming GB3 project.
However, Hollywood Reporter indicates that "The Heat" helm was not yet in the official negotiation stage for the gig, but nevertheless, he is the company's first choice in the list.
It has also been revealed by The Guardian that Sony is in the works to revamp the classic movie, replacing the all-male team with female members.
The fictional group's fourth member, Ernie Hudson (as Winston Zeddemore) further shed light to the purported plans during a discussion at Comic-Con recently.
"It's going to be different. So it (part 3) has to be original and it has to be something that is worth all the 30 years of waiting," he explained.
Other sources indicated that "Bridesmaids" Megan Price actress Melissa McCarthy will take up one of the roles in the rumored gender-swapped installment. Moreover, co-stars Kristen Wiig and Rose Byrne are also rooted to join the squad, though claims have yet to be confirmed.
"Ghostbusters 3" is expected to begin its filming in summer of 2015.
