'Gotham' Season 2 Plot News: Barnes Against the Bad Guys

With the second season of "Gotham" currently in progress, a new character has joined the crew.

It was reported that the season had introduced a new sheriff, played by Michael Chiklis. He will be taking on the role of Captain Nathaniel Barnes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Barnes will be set on keeping the city orderly. With that, he will do all he can to make sure that criminals will be put away. The showrunner of the series had described Barnes as "someone who believes absolutely in the law, and in obeying the law to the letter no matter what."

During an interview with Chiklis, the actor revealed what he felt about his new character. He said, "I see him as a guy who's clinging to the law because of his own personal experiences. He's a guy who sees the law as the thing that separates us from the animals — and the animal within each of us."

He also explained that since the season is titled "Rise of the Villains," which means that there will be many new villains raiding the city, Barnes is expected to act like a counterbalance.

Chiklis' character made his debut during the previous episode of "Gotham" titled "Strike Force." He made a dramatic entrance at the Gotham City Police Department as he fired several officers who were corrupt. He warned the others that anyone else who decided to break the law will be fired.

The previous episode also saw Penguin, played by Robin Lord Taylor, in a meeting with several criminals to find out who exactly organized the breakout in Arkham. After that, Penguin went to meet Theo, played by James Frain. Theo then revealed that it was him who was responsible from the mess in the city.

With that, it will not be long until Barnes does what he can to put the city back into order.
