Huawei Watch To Be Available in Australia on October 15 for High Price

The Huawei Watch will be available in Australia beginning Oct. 15 at a price that is higher than what its bigger competitors have.

The Chinese tech giant finally announced that it will launch the Huawei Watch in Australia on Oct. 15. The new smartwatch is definitely more expensive than the Apple Watch at its starting price of AU$549 ($387), according to ZD Net.

There are concerns that the high pricing point of the Huawei Watch could discourage customers from buying it, the report adds.

The Huawei Watch, which measures 42 millimeters in diameter and 11.3 millimeters in thickness, sports a 1.4-inch AMOLED touch screen display with a 400 x400 286 ppi resolution. It runs a 1.2 gigahertz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip with 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. The smartwatch is powered by a 300 mAh Li-battery that charges in 75 minutes using a magnetic charger, Geeky Gadgets reports.

The device also boasts of a gyroscope, vibration motor, heart rate sensor, and accelerometer. The Huawei Watch has both WiFi and Bluetooth support, the report details.

The most interesting feature of the Huawei Watch is its Android Wear 1.3.0.x software, which is based on Android 5.1. The said software is compatible with iOS devices, so it can cater to both Android and iPhone device owners.

Fashion-forward consumers can be drawn to the Huawei Watch's sapphire crystal face and stainless steel band. However, the device's high-end appearance has affected its pricing.

"Today, consumers are not only looking for a feature-packed smartwatch; they're looking for a fashion statement, ZD Net quotes Huawei Australia's Consumer Business Group director Howard Chen. "The Huawei Watch is the first watch on the market to truly bridge the gap between fashion and technology."

The silver body and black leather strap variant of the Huawei Watch carries a basic price tag of AU$549 ($387) and the silver body and silver mesh strap variant costs AU$649 ($457). The device has a silver body and silver link bracelet variant that also sells for AU$649 ($457). The black body and black link bracelet variant takes the top spot in the price list at AU$749 ($527), the report details.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the entry-level Huawei Watch carries a price tag of only AU$497 ($349.99) on Amazon, while the stainless steel with silver link and mesh bands costs AU$568 ($399.99). The most expensive variant of the smartwatch sells for AU$709 ($499.99).
