Inauguration Day: 7 interesting facts about Trump’s second swearing in
First Republican president in 20 years to win popular vote

When he is sworn in on Monday, Trump can rightly claim to have gotten to Inauguration Day by being the first Republican presidential candidate to win the popular vote in 20 years.
The last time a Republican candidate won the popular vote was President George W. Bush, who in 2004 had received over 62 million votes, compared to Democrat challenger John Kerry’s approximately 59 million votes.
In 2008 and 2012, President Barack Obama won the election and the popular vote. While Trump had defeated Democrat opponent Hillary Clinton in 2016, she received nearly 3 million more votes than her Republican adversary. And in 2020, Biden won the popular vote and the election.
