iPhone 5 Release Date: Motorola Droid Bionic Vs. iPhone 4S

Apple's iPhone 4S smartphone may face some competition from another high quality smartphone this year - Motorola's Droid Bionic.

Apple's iPhone 4S is outfitted with the A5 processing chip. It is also powered by a 1 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU with a NEON SIMD accelerator and a dual core PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU.

Apple stated that the CPU for their smartphone is twice as powerful and the GPU is up to seven times as powerful as its predecessor, the Apple A4.

Motorola's Droid Bionic features the Texas Instruments' OMAP4430 chipset, which clocks in at 1 GHz. It also uses a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 with a PowerVR SGX540 integrated 3D graphics accelerator that runs at a clock frequency of 304 MHz.

The iPhone 4S and Droid Bionic definitely differ in their current operating systems.

The iPhone 4S features iOS 5, which features include the notification bar, cloud synchronization, wireless syncing, Twitter integration and Widgets. The Droid Bionic comes with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

The display sizes for both smartphones also come into play.

Motorola's Droid Bionic uses a qHD (960 x 540 pixels, 256 ppi pixel density) TFT display for its 4.3-inch screen. Its screen is similar in size to the 16:9 ratio of some current HD television sets.

Apple's iPhone 4S has a 3.5-inch TFT Retina multi-touch display that could provide users a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels at 326 ppi density.

One area where Motorola's smartphone may have an advantage over Apple's is in its design.

The iPhone 4S is very similar in design to Apple's previous entry-level models. The Droid Bionic has gone through several design periods by Motorola.

That ultimately gives it a signature look, as opposed to the iPhone 4S.

The battery life for the Droid Bionic may have a longer shelf life than the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4S has a Li-Po 1420 mAh battery, with 8 hours of talk time on 3G networks and up to 14 hours on 2G networks (GSM).

The Droid Bionic will come with a 1735 mAh battery, which should give it a longer battery life.

The Motorola DROID Bionic boasts 4G LTE connectivity while Verizon iPhone 4S users only have access to 3G at the moment.

The amazing features from the Droid Bionic could change the landscape of dominance set by the Apple iPhone 4S.
