Jay Z Reveals Thoughts On Pursuing Beyonce If He Weren't Famous

Shawn "Jay Z" Carter, the 43-year-old rap mogul, recently opened up about whether he would have been able to attract his wife and singer Beyonce Knowles if he were not famous.

The pair of musicians have been married for five years and collaborated on a number of records to document their love for the world. While Jay Z recently opened up to Vanity Fair magazine about beginning to pursue the 32-year-old singer in 2001, he also said he was confident that his personality would have won her over even if he did not have fame or fortune.

"If I'm as cool as I am, yes," the rap mogul told Vanity Fair. "But she's a charming Southern girl, you know, she's not impressed. . . . But I would have definitely had to be this cool."

He also went on to reveal how things were at the beginning of their relationship 12 years ago.

"We were just beginning to try to date each other," he told Vanity Fair. "Well, you know, you've got to try first. You got to dazzle . . . wine and dine."

Earlier this year, Jay Z recently spoke to Rap Radar's Elliott Wilson about why he feels the need to showcase his love for Beyonce on record.

"There are very few relationships in Hip Hop music," the rapper told Wilson. "It's a lot of 'I took your girl, and I'm gonna take it again,' and 'I'm with your girl and never gave it out.'"

Jay Z spoke about breaking boundaries by speaking about marriage in his music.

"I don't know if people are properly absorbing what I'm doing here," the rapper told Wilson. "I don't know in the context, just being honest about [marriage] and just putting those subject matters in Hip Hop records, that's not normal."
