Jennifer Lawrence Compares 'Hunger Games' to Kim Kardashian Divorce

In a recent interview Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss Everdeen in "Hunger Games," has compared the book's central theme to reality television. She has also come forward stating that she is prepared to be a role model for young girls.

Jennifer Lawrence doesn't appear to be a big fan of reality television. In a recent interview with Parade magazine she suggested that using other's tragedy as a form of entertainment revealed a downward spiraling society. As an example she cited Kim Kardashian's 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries.

"I was watching the Kardashian girl getting divorced, and that's a tragedy for anyone," Lawrence told Parade. "But they're using it for entertainment, and we're watching it."

The "Hunger Games" revolves around a competition in which the whole society sits down to a television and watches young kids die trying to fight for their lives.

"The books hold up a terrible kind of mirror: This is what our society could be like if we became desensitized to trauma and to each other's pain," Lawrence explained.

After appearing in the "Hunger Games" Lawrence is aware that she has now become more of a public figure. "I'm now a role model for young girls, so my language has to change a lot," Lawrence joked during a press appearance.

"I know that would change a lot of decisions work-wise personally ... as far as my next roles, because there would be young girls watching what I'm doing and emulating."

Lawrence's protective character seems quite similar to the character she plays in the film; Katniss is determined to protect the innocence of her younger sister, Prim.

For Gary Ross, director of the "Hunger Games," that sort of attitude made Lawrence an obvious choice for the role.

"She's brave, strong, self-confident, she knows who she is ... she's very clear, there isn't a great filter. Jen will kind of say anything, all of which can describe Katniss," Ross told the Tribune, who called Lawrence's talent "unique in her generation."
