Judd Nelson Death Hoax Fools Fans: Actor Dispels Rumors
Judd Nelson's death hoax fooled many of the actor's fans into believing he had died on Sunday, according to reports. The 55-year-old actor was forced to disprove the false claims made by a fake news network.
The Judd Nelson death hoax claimed that the "St. Elmo's Fire" actor was found dead on Saturday night at the Sierra Towers, which is a condominium in West Hollywood, California. The site that propagated the rumors was foxnews.es, and because of its similarity to actual news site FoxNews.com, many believed that Nelson had died.
"Dear God- pls let this Judd Nelson death be a hoax. Please. 55 is too young," one user wrote.
Others on social media lamented the death of their favorite 1980s actor, and Judd Nelson began trending on Facebook and Twitter. Fortunately, the actor's agent got wind of the hoax and put a stop to it.
"Reports of Judd Nelson's death are not accurate, please see attached photo," Gregg Klein said in an email to The Los Angeles Times. Attached to the email was a picture of a grizzle Nelson holding up a current issue of the paper itself.
Nelson's manager Jean-Pierre Henraux also worked to dispel the death rumors, saying that the actor doesn't live at the address provided by foxnews.es. He added that the actor is in "perfect" shape and just finished a stint on Fox series "Empire."
Nelson came to prominence as part of the Brat Pack — the group of young actors included Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy and Demi Moore — but was best known for his role in "The Breakfast Club." Since then he has acted on TV shows like "CSI" and "Two and a Half Men."
