Karrueche Defends Being Linked To 'Horrible' Aaliyah Joke

Karrueche Tran is defending herself against claims that she was making light of the death of the late singer Aaliyah.

Aaliyah died over 12 years ago in a plane crash at the age of 22. After Tran, the 25-year-old model and girlfriend of singer Chris Brown, posted an image of a coloring book with Aaliyah's likeness on it while flying, many spoke out against her.

"Bought a cool coloring book for the plane," Tran shared with fans on Instagram.

A number of Aaliyah fans became enraged and even went as far as saying that Tran's plane would crash. The model reacted by lashing out at her naysayers on Twitter.

"Y'all love to twist some (expletive) around," Tran wrote. "To everyone who sent me hate and wished for my plane to crash.. I made it safe and sound (expletive) lol finally home."

Aaliyah may have died in 2001 but has continued to make her mark on the music world as a record-breaking R&B artist whose influence transcended her life. Last year, Brown's off-and-on again boyfriend Chris Brown even collaborated with the late singer by using her in his song, "Don't Think They Know."

Tran went on to explain why she felt the need to make mention of Aaliyah while riding in an airplane, which prove to be a sensitive subject for fans who assumed she was making a crass joke. She insisted that her posting the image of the Aaliyah coloring book while on an airplane was merely an oversight.

"It wasn't an Aaliyah joke. I bought a coloring book from Urban Outfitters and she was on the cover," Tran told blogger Jason Lee. "I bought it for the plane ride home. It looks horrible and I didn't even think twice about it. I would never joke on someone's death."
