Kate Middleton Calls Birth 'Natural and Perfect'; Duchess Had Hairdresser On Call for Whole Month

Friends of Duchess Kate Middleton are speaking out about her birth experience and natural transition to motherhood. They are revealing details about the planning for Prince George's birth, which Kate described as "perfect."

"She said it was straightforward and there were no complications," a friend of the Duchess told Vanity Fair. "She wanted a natural birth and she was so happy she was able to have one. She spoke to some of her best girlfriends after the birth and described the birth as perfect."

Middleton gave birth to baby George on July 22, after checking into the hospital earlier that morning. Prince William stayed by her side the entire time and after the birth, her parents were the first visitors. Prince Charles and Camilla visited a short time later, and then the new family emerged from the hospital and went home.

Family friend George Brown said that he was not surprised Kate did so well with the delivery and had an easy transition to motherhood.

"She was fit and competent from the word go," Brown told the magazine. "She seemed to take to motherhood amazingly well, and when I went round to see her, she was happily breastfeeding and seemed to know exactly what she was doing. Catherine was a lovely little baby," he added, "cherubic and chubby-cheeked and so good. I remember she didn't cry much at all. I think that was probably because [mom] Carole was so relaxed."

The magazine article also reveals details about all the planning that went into George's birth, including the fact that hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker was on standby the entire month of July and brought an assortment of dresses for Kate to pick from before leaving the hospital.

"She chose the pale blue spotted Jenny Packham dress that afternoon because her tummy was still very rounded and she decided there was no point trying to hide her bump, so she went for a flattering dress that showed off her curves," a source told Vanity Fair.

The new family is busy preparing to move to Kensington Palace and planning George's official christening. Kate and William have not announced who George's godparents are, but their siblings, Pippa and Harry are likely to be included.
