Kletzky Murder Inspires New Law to Protect Children in New York

In the wake of the horrific murder of Brooklyn boy Leiby Kletzky, a New York politician is working on new laws that will protect other children from being abducted.

New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind wants to give a $500 tax credit to businesses that install security cameras.

“Having more surveillance cameras in general is just a very good idea to protect communities from the kind of things that just happened in Borough Park,” Hikind has told The Christian Post.

Security cameras played a large role in the investigation of the murder of Kletzky, as they captured the boy in his encounter with the lead suspect for his murder, Levi Aron.

The footage shows Kletzky getting into Aron’s car, according to police.

According to Hikind, his office is currently at work on the bill to implement this new law and they will start the process to officially sign it in January.

“We want to do everything to encourage people to take advantage and install these surveillance cameras for their good, for the individual in terms of their own personal property, and it will also give us information with regard to what’s going on out on the street,” said Hikind in his comments to The Christian Post.

“Bottom line is to get more security cameras out there just like they have in Manhattan,” Hikind added.

Manhattan is covered by these cameras and according to the assemblymen it will be extremely beneficial to police if other areas in New York installed more of these surveillance devices.

Hikind also stated that it is up to the individual business whether they want cameras installed or not. He feels enough of them will take advantage of the credit for the state to have great security coverage throughout the community.

“Not everyone has to have it in order for us to have the security outside on the streets,” said Hikind.

He added that they are also looking into some other options to have security cameras provided for the community from a different perspective, and that the main goal of these new laws will be to combat crime by increasing surveillance throughout New York.
