NBC announced the news that was also revealed through Madonna’s official website, and it named the team that is going to be help the pop icon dance and sing at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Feb. 5.

“The Material Girl has partnered with a creative team from Cirque du Soleil, Jamie King, and multimedia artists from Moment Factory, to create a signature performance for the Super Bowl's Halftime Show, which will be broadcast worldwide,” announced the statement.

Cirque du Soleil is an entertainment company based in Montreal, Canada, and it is responsible for the “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour” that features acrobatic performances modeled after the King of Pop’ famous dance routines.

Madonna is hoping the entertainment company will help her achieve a truly memorable performance at the Super Bowl XLVI, with more than half of the U.S. population expected to watch. Last year’s event featured The Black Eyes Peas during the halftime show, and the performance was viewed by more than 162 million people, according to AOL TV.

Jamie King will be in charge of the project, as he has been the creative director for Madonna’s last four tours spanning over a 13-year period. King also directed the Michael Jackson “Immortal” Cirque du Soleil show.

The pop icon’s decision to team with NBC and the National Football League will allow her to gain maximum exposure to promote a new movie that launches just two days before the event in 2012. Madonna produced, wrote and directed “W.E.,” a romantic drama starring Abbie Cornish.

NBC released a sneak-peak video last night announcing the news.
