Legendary poet, author and civil rights activist Maya Angelou was found dead Wednesday at her home in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was 86. Her talents were many, inspiring generations through song, dance, acting, writing and directing.

Angelou's was a unique and celebrated life. In this conversation with Oprah Winfrey, she reveals one of the most pivotal moments in that life, when, in her youth, her mentor had her dwell on these three words: God loves me.
