Motorola Droid RAZR Release Date: Smartphone Available for Pre-Order; Free NFL Mobile App Included

If you are a football fan looking for a new phone, the Motorola Droid RAZR is available for pre-order today and buyers will get NFL Mobile free for the rest of the 2011 season.

The new Droid RAZR, which was presented last week as the world's thinnest smartphone, is the second dual-core 4G LTE smartphone by Verizon, PC Mag reported, and all of Verizon's 4G LTE customers get the benefit of having NFL Mobile for 2011 at no additional charge.

Aside from getting NFL Mobile for free, the Droid RAZR is only 7.1mm thick, runs on a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, and has Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

TechCrunch reports that Ice Cream Sandwich will be available on the Droid RAZR soon, as well. However, Droid-Life, a technology website, said customers might have to wait a while.

"We received a clarification on this Tweet from Motorola," Droid-Life said. "They do not plan to have Ice Cream Sandwich on devices 6 weeks after the new OS is released. Instead, they plan to announce a timeline for ICS updates within 6 weeks of Google releasing it."

In addition, the new phone has a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED 960×540 display, and a whole 1 GB of RAM.

NFL Mobile was available for free until recently, when the price jumped to $10 a month, much to the ire of football fans without a 4G LTE smartphone.

The popular app allows users to watch live games, review highlights, gain quick access to their fantasy team rosters, and more.

Another feature that TechCrunch raves about is the phone's ability to sync the MotoACTV watch with the Droid RAZR, which means one can simultaneously check text messages and see phone calls while "you're out jogging or hitting the gym," the website says.

CNET also raved about the phone's design, pointing out its tough, Corning Gorilla glass. However, especially worth noting is that the new Droid RAZR has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display with qHD resolution, making it the first smartphone capable of streaming Netflix in HD.

The other features that the Droid RAZR has are 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video capture and image stabilization and a front-facing HD camera for video chat, CNET reports.

According to Marni Walden, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless, the Droid RAZR hopes to combine technology with service.

"Droid RAZR by Motorola combines style, performance and the power of Verizon Wireless's 4G LTE network into one innovative device," Walden said in a statement. "These are two iconic brands that separately symbolize the best technology available today. The combination will provide an unsurpassed wireless experience for customers."

Pre-orders for the Motorola Droid RAZR are available for $299 with a two-year contract on Verizon's website.
