NC Church to Host Men's Summit With Former NFL Player, Pro-wrestling Champion

A North Carolina church will soon hold a men's conference featuring a retired general, a former NFL player, and a former professional wrestler among its honored guests.

The Men's Ministry at Shady Grove Wesleyan Church of Colfax will host the "Triad Area Wide Men's Summit" on Saturday from 12-6 pm.

Shady Grove Wesleyan describes the event on their website as being a one-day event for men to be "fed spiritually and challenged to be the 'Man God Intended Us to Be!'"

Roy Jones, event coordinator for the Summit, told The Christian Post that it was the first time Shady Grove Wesleyan was doing this type of event.

"We reached out through the various networks that many of our men had developed over time, but ultimately it was God's alignment and organization," said Jones, who added that an estimated 500+ individuals had purchased tickets for the Summit.

The theme of the Summit is "being a man of God, no excuses." Several featured guests will be among the attendees, including former NFL player Johnny Evans of the Cleveland Browns, former WWE pro-wrestler and current evangelist Nikita Koloff, and retired US Army general W.G. "Jerry" Boykin, who currently serves as Executive Vice President of the Washington, DC-based Family Research Council.

Rob Schwarzwalder, FRC senior vice president, talked to CP about Boykin.

"General Boykin brings a deep commitment to Christ and a lifetime of leadership to his public ministry," said Schwarzwalder. "He can speak to the needs and concerns of men as can few other leaders, and as the father of sons as well as former commander of some of America's top warriors, he understands what it means to guide other men toward achieving goals and more fully realizing their God-given abilities."

In addition to Koloff, Evans, and Boykin, other featured guests include Dr. E. Keith Carroll of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church of Thomasville; Pastor Hiawatha Hemphill, founder and head of Servant's Heart Worship Center in High Point and CEO of Hiawatha Hemphill Ministries; and North Carolina State Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby.
