New England Patriots Roster News 2015: Julian Edelman Has Broken Foot in Win Against the Giants

The New England Patriots continued their winning ways after surviving a thriller against the New York Giants, 27-26 in Week 10. However, the team might found themselves in trouble in their next games after wide receiver Julian Edelman suffered a foot injury.

According to reports, Edelman broke the fifth metatarsal in his foot. Adam Schefter reporting for ESPN first revealed that the 29-year-old will be undergoing surgery to repair the badly broken foot. However, he is expected to return before the end of the regular season.

After the game, he was seen in crutches, while his left foot had a boot in it. The team originally announced that he is questionable to return to the game, but that was later changed to "would not return." After getting looked at by the team's medical staff, he eventually went to the locker room limping.

Taking Its Toll

The Patriots are the team to beat in the entire league, racking up nine victories without a loss midway through the season. However, Edelman's injury will definitely be a huge blow for them considering that he is one of Tom Brady's most reliable targets. As a matter of fact, many pundits already look at him as the best receiver in the team.

In the previous two seasons with the team, Edelman racked up 2,000 yards, compared to a little over 700 in his first four seasons. This season, he already has 639 yards to his name along with seven touchdowns. It's no secret how deadly the Patriots' offense is with Edelman and Brady in the driver's seat, averaging almost 35 points per game.

Edelman's absence, though, isn't really the end of the world for the team, as Brady still has several options at his disposal, including Brandon LaFell and Rob Gronkowski. But Edelman's position is expected to be filled up by Danny Amendola for the time being.
