'Penny Dreadful' Season 2 Spoilers: 'The Hunters Become the Prey' in New Featurette

Showtime recently released a featurette for the upcoming second season of the hit gothic horror TV series "Penny Dreadful" and the video reveals a great deal of things to expect when the show returns to the small screen.

"This season," lead cast star Eva Green, who plays the protagonist Vanessa Ives, said in the video, "we all go in a different journey and then wrestling with their inner demons."

"Vanessa is very very fragile in this season. She's not in control at all. The devil has sent his servants to capture her soul and they're actually more terrifying than the devil himself," she went on to explain.

Josh Hartnett, who plays Ethan Chandler, said that "this season, the hunters become the prey."

The upcoming season will also see a deeper bond getting linked among the primary characters including Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), and the taciturn servant Sembene (Danny Sapani).

"They've become closer as a family which is invaluable," Sapani said.

Those rooting for a Vanessa-Ethan romantic link should also be in the lookout for this season.

"Both Vanessa and Ethan are kind of afraid of their desire for each other," Green said. But the footage teases the two getting more intimate than what they exhibited in the first season.

Helen McCrory, who appeared briefly in season 1 and will be playing a huge role in season 2, also implied that the show will be holding no bars in terms of intrigue and suspense.

"Now that we're set up and the train leaves the station – it goes very very fast," the actress said.

"The demon within all these characters is the thing that makes them exceptional. That's what season 2 is about!" creator and executive producer John Logan noted.

"Penny Dreadful" is set to kick off its second season this April 16 at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
